What is sucrose ester as an emulsifier?
Time:2022-10-19
Sucrose ester emulsifierIt is an excellent non-ionic surfactant, with the sucrose part being hydrophilic and the long-chain fatty acid part being lipophilic. The more monoester content, the more hydrophilic it is. It is harmless to the human body, non-polluting to the skin and mucous membranes, and can be completely biodegradable.
Sucrose ester emulsifier is formed by the dehydration condensation of sucrose with less than 8 fatty acid molecules under appropriate conditions.
Sucrose usually refers to sucrose esters containing more than three esters. When more than six of the eight hydroxyl groups of sucrose are esterified (i.e., esterification degree = 6-8), it is called SPE, or sucrose polyesters. Sucrose ester emulsifier is a mixture of sucrose and fatty acid esters. Sucrose esters with more than six hydroxyl groups have properties similar to edible oils. The physical properties, functions, and applications of sucrose depend on the type of fatty acids.
1. Product characteristics of sucrose ester emulsifier
Sucrose ester appearance: white to yellow powder, or colorless to light yellow viscous liquid or soft solid, odorless or slightly odorous. Monoesters soluble in ethanol can dissolve in hot water, but diesters or triesters are insoluble in water.
2. Product uses of sucrose ester emulsifier
Mainly used as food additives, feed additives, fertilizer additives, cosmetics, raw materials, etc. Commonly used in various foods, beverages, feed, agriculture, industry, biochemical research, etc.
Applications in the daily chemical industry
Sucrose ester emulsifier is non-toxic, safe, and soft, and can be completely degraded. It can be used to make detergents, and detergents formulated with it can effectively remove residues from vegetables and fruits, with very little residue left. It can also form a porous lipid membrane on the skin surface to prevent dryness, making it particularly suitable for emulsifiers and emulsifying stabilizers in facial and eye cosmetics.
Applications of sucrose ester emulsifier in other industries
Sucrose ester emulsifier is used as a leveling agent and fiber treatment agent in the textile industry; in the plastics industry, it can be used as an emulsifier, stabilizer, and plasticizer. In agriculture, it can be used as a dispersant and emulsifier, as well as a crop growth regulator, achieving good yield increase effects. In the feed industry, it increases meat yield; in the fermentation industry, adding sucrose ester emulsifier can increase the yield of amylase, adenine (deaminase), protease, cellulase, etc. In the petroleum industry, it is used as a mud suppressor and pour point depressant.
